Series 2
I try to create a collaged delusion of a dreamy and quiet environment in which small details invite the viewer to step closer and linger. Snapshot is a series that I started in 2014. The monoprints of the scarf that I used to wear create a platform for my rendered figures to share their stories while remaining interwoven with my daily life. The printed scarves intimate the female body. What used to cover a body now is resembling it. This transformation, reexamine the function and historical connotation of the scarves. Within this body of work I try to get away from the typical image of the oppressive force behind hijab and reconsider the scarf as an added fixture to the traditionally covered body; A decorative element that has been formed in a traditional society and can be embraced and rejected simultaneously.
